Summer Reading Project

Hello MAAL students,

The English Department is excited to announce the start of our Summer Reading Challenge! Read 1 book this summer in English, answer the following questions of the book report, and be prepared to present your book at the start of the school year to your new English class to get a MOVIE TICKET PRIZE! Your book report should be 2 pages long. 

We hope you enjoy your reading and have a happy and safe summer. See you in the Fall!

Book Report Guidelines:

  • Book Title

  • Book Author

  • Book Genre

  • Pages

  • Describe the setting of the story.

  • Give a summary of the plot.

  • What is the main conflict and how (if at all) is it resolved?

  • Describe the protagonist and the antagonist. How would you characterize them? 

  • Describe a central idea or theme in the text. How did the author develop the central idea?

  • Compare and contrast this novel to another novel you have read.

  • Has this novel broadened your perspective? Have you learned something new or been exposed to different ideas about people or a certain part of the world?

  • Would you recommend this book? Why or why not? If so, to whom would you recommend it?

  • What text to text connections can you make?

  • What text to world connections can you make?

  • What text to self connections can you make?

  • What new vocabulary did you learn? Define and write a sentence for each.
